Read & Publish agreements

Read & Publish agreements are a flexible way for libraries and institutions to support open access publishing while maintaining access to trusted research content. Taylor & Francis works with institutions worldwide to design agreements that align with our partners’ needs and strategic goals.

What is a Read & Publish agreement?

A Read & Publish agreement combines two elements in one contract:

  1. Continued access to Taylor & Francis journals for your institution

  2. Open access publishing provision for researchers affiliated to your institution

With more than 2,100 Open Select journals able to be included, Read & Publish agreements give institutions the flexibility to expand open access without losing access to subscription content.

Why institutions choose Read & Publish agreements

Institutions often consider Read & Publish agreements when reviewing how open access publishing is managed across the library.

This may be the case if:

  • Researchers at your institution are publishing more regularly in hybrid journals

  • Managing individual article publishing charge payments has become complex or time-consuming

  • There is a need for greater predictability in publishing and reading costs

  • Funder or national open access requirements are increasing

  • Open access publishing is harder to support in under-funded subject areas

  • Administrative time spent managing publishing activity is increasing

What happens when you get in touch?

A conversation can help clarify whether Read & Publish is relevant to your institution, what agreements already exist in your region or consortium and how this model compares with other open access options. It can also be useful for planning future changes, even if no agreement is in place now.

Taylor & Francis currently has over 80 Read & Publish agreements, covering more than one thousand organisations worldwide.
