Open access books and chapters

At Taylor & Francis we’ve been publishing open access journals since 2006, and in 2013 we launched our open access book program. We publish open access books and book chapters across all subjects in the humanities, social sciences, STEM and behavioral sciences covered by Routledge, CRC Press and our other imprints.
Anyone, anywhere can access over 2,800 books with open access content through our Taylor & Francis eBooks platform.
What are open access books?
Open access books are single- or co-authored books, edited collections and individual chapters published as gold open access. This means that the final published version is freely available to anyone, anywhere to read, download, and share under a Creative Commons license.
Our open access book content benefits from:
The same high quality professional production process as our traditionally published titles
It is our belief that the option to publish open access is available to as many researchers as possible. To help achieve this we also offer reduced pricing on the Book Processing Charges (BPCs) normally required to publish in the Taylor & Francis open access books program to eligible funders from lower income countries.

Taylor & Francis is a Gold Sponsor of the directory of open access books (DOAB).
DOAB is a community-driven discovery service that indexes and provides access to scholarly, peer-reviewed open access books and helps users to find trusted open access book publishers.
Open access books and chapters: publishing options
Open access books
Enable researchers to make single- or co-authored books, edited collections and conference proceedings gold open access upon publication.
Open access chapters
Give researchers the flexibility to open one or multiple chapters within a title to gold open access.
Pledge to Open 2024/2025
Pledge to Open is a collective funding initiative that makes scholarly books free to read and free to publish. It enables libraries to use their budgets more effectively, creating a greater global impact by working together rather than independently.
By contributing to Open Access book publishing, pledging institutions help to ensure the widest possible dissemination of important research, benefiting authors and readers, especially in lower-income countries.
The pledging period runs from September 2024 through the end of September 2025, and is centered around seven collections:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Biotechnological Solutions
- Sustainability in Practice
- Migration and Asylum
- Children’s Health and Welfare
- Global Security
- Social Movements and Activism
Retrospective open access
Convert full books or individual chapters to gold open access after publication. This route benefits from tiered pricing which is linked to the date of publication.
Open access collaborative collections
Open multiple titles or chapters from your institution’s researchers to increase the visibility and impact of work.

Taylor & Francis partnership with Knowledge Unlatched
Knowledge Unlatched collections are living collections that continue to expand. These collections are financed through libraries coming together to crowd fund key research, making it available to all.
